Facts I left off of the first one: Bleach was originally going to be called Sheep, but Nirvana saw an advertisement in LA on a Billboard that said Bleach and had to do something with HIV, and decided to call it Bleach. Nevermind was going to be called Too Many Humans because of Kurt's antisocial personality, but they did Nevermind for three reasons: It was incorrect grammar (never mind, kurt HATED grammar), it was a stoner-ish idea, it was in Smells Like Teen Spirit. There was an accidentally hidden track on Nevermind: Even In His Youth (from Smells Like Teen Spirit single). It was accidentally left off of Nevermind because of no room, but some of the manufactures made room for this song. Therefore, on very few copies of Nevermind, Even In His Youth is on the CD, although it is not labeled so.
At the time Nevermind came out on September 24th, 1991, Kurt Donald Cobain was living in his car. Yeah: He was the most famous man in America and yet he was still living in his car.
In 1992, Nirvana was the most popular band in all of America. Kurt had a problem with this. When he created Nirvana, he wanted a smaller and not as famous band, like the Melvins (a main inspiration of Nirvana), but he got much more than he asked for. He didn't want to be famous and get all the attention on MTV and stuff like that. He hated it!
In early 1992, Kurt met Courtney Love. When they first saw each other, they fell in love. Their relationship was an on an off thing until they got engaged. On February 24th, 1992, 4 days after Kurt's birthday, Kurt and Courtney are married. Krist and his wife, Shelli refuse an invitation because of Courtney.
At the VMAs in 1992, Nirvana received two Grammies: one for Best New Artist and Best Alterative Video. They performed Lithium onstage. They first started by playing the first chords of Rape Me to fool around with MTV people (they won't air Rape Me, they would have to edit it out), but then when into Lithium. At the end of the performance, Krist hurts himself by throwing his bass in the air. It hit his face and broke his nose and had to go to the hospital afterwards.
In 1992, Kurt was starting to write new songs, some of which would be realeased later on In Utero, such as Pennyroyal Tea, and a bunch of other In Utero Songs. Kurt decided that by the end of 1992, he would make a new album called I Hate Myself And I Want To Die. They didn't end up making the CD in 1992, but released another CD.
On August 18, 1992, the greatest thing in the world happened to Kurt. His daugter, Francis Bean Cobain was born. She was the greatest joy in his lfe. She was what made life better for Kurt. He would constantly play with her and be the best father he could be towards her.
On December 1992, Incesticide is released. This CD is compiled with many old songs and a few newer ones too. The dates of the songs range from about 1985 to 1992. It includes original Nirvana songs that weren't put on Bleach or Nevermind, such as Dive, Aneurysm, Been A Son (Nevermind era), Mexican Seafood, Hairspray Queen, Aero Zeppelin (Bleach era).
In March 1993, Nirvana started to record the new songs they wrote for In Utero, like Heart-Shaped Box, Serve The Servants, Dumb, etc. They record all of the songs in 2 weeks. One of the songs, I Hate Myself And I Want To Die (the original name for the CD) was not put into In Utero. Instead, they put it on the Beavis And Butthead Experience in 1999. This year, again, Nirvana wins the Best Alternative Video, for the Heart-Shaped Box video (a really awesome video).
On September 21, 1993, In Utero finally came out in the United States, when a week before, it was released in the UK. Like Nevermind, In Utero also had a secret track. This time though, it was done on purpose. On releases of In Utero outside of North America, there is a secret track at the end of the CD called Gallons Of Rubbing Alcohol Flowing Through The Strip. The did this so that real Nirvana fans would pay more for In Utero by buying the imports that have the secret track on them (I thought that was a clever idea).
On December 16, 1993, Nirvana has their most famous concert (my favorite) - MTV: Nirvana Unplugged in New York, although it technically wasn't unplugged because they used accoustic electric guitar and bass. This concert featured the band's new rhythm guitarist, Pat Smear from the Germs. Their last rhythm guitarist was Jason Everman, from the Bleach tour. Also, they featured a favorite band of Kurts: the Meat Puppets. The played three Meat Puppet songs, Plateau, Lake Of Fire, and Oh Me. These songs feature the Meat Puppet guitarists and Kurt on vocals. They also played three other covers: Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam, Where Did You Sleep Last Night, and The Man Who Sold The World. Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam was a Vaselines cover. Geffen records mislabeled it as Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam. Where Did You Sleep Last Night was a Leadbelly cover, a band that Kurt also admired. The last, The Man Who Sold The World was a David Bowie cover. The rest of the songs were from either Nevermind or In Utero.
In late January 1994 or late February 1994, Nirvana had their last recording session ever. There they only recorded one song: You Know You're Right, which was finally released in 2002 on Nirvana (greatest hits). It is also referred to as the following: Know Your Rights, You've Got No Right, On A Mountain, and Autopilot (Outcesticide V). The song was played on their last concert, on February 29th, 1994 in Munich after the European tour was cut short from Kurt being ill.
On March 4th, after a suicide attempt through drug overdose in Italy, Kurt is hospitalized. The next day, he came out of a coma and asked for a milkshake. Three days later, Kurt leaves the hospital on will power. Later in March, Kurt goes to Exodus and finds one of the Butthole Surfers, Gibby Haynes. Gibby said that when he saw Kurt, he looked like he was sick an tired of being sick and tired. Kurt later escaped from Exodus by climbing over the fence. He then took a plane back to Seattle. On the plain, he sat next to Guns 'n' Roses (a band Kurt somehow hated) bassist Duff McKagan. At the airport, Duff says Kurt vanished.
Nobody saw Kurt until April 8th, 1994 at 8:00 AM. Gary Smith, the Cobain's electrictian, found a body in the room above the garage, the greenhouse, in the Cobain Seattle home. Since Gary did not know Kurt, he wasn't sure who's body it was. He called the police. When they came, they identified the body as Kurt Cobain and immediately declared a suicide, something the police aren't supposed to do. The case was immediately closed, ruled a suicide.
Two days later, a memorial service was held for Kurt. Courtney read parts of Kurt's note that he left (I don't think he committed suicide). Krist also made a speach at the memorial service. Unfortunately, Kurt was cremated. Some of his ashes where dumped in a river and some were burried under an oak tree in their Seattle home.
Notes about his death:
Personally, I don't think that Kurt committed suicide because the CRUCIAL evidence is against it: Kurt was injected with 3 times the lethal heroin dose, enough to put you in a coma instantly. How could Kurt have time to inject himself, nicely roll down his sleeve (as it was found), and then shoot yourself in the head? It is impossible. Why was Kurt's suicide letter at the end not perfectly in his handwriting? Why were papers found with Courtney Love that showed she tried to forge Kurt's handwriting? Why is it that El Duce, leader of the Mentors, claims on the movie Kurt and Courtney that she paid him $50,000 to kill Kurt and stage it as a suicide and leave a note? Why is it that in 1996, El Duce was ran over by a train? My theory is that Courtney Love payed El Duce to kill Kurt and stage it a suicide. She couldn't have killed Kurt because she was in Los Angeles for drug rehab. Decide for yourself with this evidence. Please make any comments about this.
