Table of contents:

1. Introduction. Before I can teach you how to play punk you need to know real punk. First off GC is not punk and are going to be scratched out of this entirely. I will use songs from real bands such as The Clash (greatest punk band of all time), Dead Kennedys, Green Day and other real punkers. Second, you need to know why people play punk. Punk is one of the easiest forms of music. But the history and the reasons behind the attitude of punk is what feuls this apocalyptic fire that dwells inside the punk rock tudes of many followers.
2. Kinds Of Punk. Now that you know why you play punk and who we will look off of I will tell you of the different kinds:
Ska Punk - punk with ska influences, bands such as Operation Ivy, Sublime, and Rancid.
Pop-Punk - the leading type in the '90s punk revival by a band named Green Day and lead to many modern day MTV punkers.
Old-School Punk (real punk) - bands that sparked the underground movement begining in the late '50s to early '60s. All the way to the late '70s. Bands such as the Sex Pistols, The Clash, and The Ramones.
Skater Punk - bands that emerged from the '80s California punk movement that was associate with skateboarding and surfing. Bands such as Bad Religion and NOFX.
Emo-Punk the lamest and crapiest form of punk. Emo stands for emotional and is pretty much a guy on a microphone crying about a lost love or some other crap.
3. Practice. For practice you should do things like this (try to make this faster and faster).

Bands such as NOFX, The Dead Kennedys and such use different variations of guitaring with these power chords to create their music.

6. Palm Muting
Palm muting is used on most punk songs, especially pop and emo. It is pretty easy, It is were you stop the strings from vibrating by muting them with your palm. Here are some examples: cause you need more practice. And when you finished this lesson downloadGreen Day - Basket Case:

P. M.Usually palm muting is shown by periods underneath the tab the only song I could find that stresses this is a Blink song so don't get mad.
Blink 182 - What's My Age Again. PM section of song:

E--2----------------------------------------------------------------7. Skunking.Ska is more complicated then the above. Ska has the use of ska type of guitaring. It's like a mixture of punk and Bob Marley. First of all, to play ska you need to know how to barre. Then, you should practice playing barre chords only on the upstroaks, and doing a "rhythmic click" on the downstrokes. First rractice: the "x"'s are the downstrokes that you don't play.

-3-x-3-x-3-x-3--3-x-3-x-3-x-3-After you got the upstrokes, practice sliding chords, while playing upstrokes. A good song to practice for this is Same In The End by Sublime:

After you put it all together, don't start off in a band, wait couple of months cause you need more practice. And when you finished this lesson download some punk rock guitar tab amd jam it.
